Cyberattack Disrupts Airport Systems in Canada, US
(MENAFN) Messages supporting Hamas and criticizing top leaders in the United States and Israel were transmitted through public speakers and shown on digital signage at multiple North American airports on Tuesday, according to local media reports.
Investigations have reportedly been initiated into what authorities suspect was an organized cyber intrusion.
The cyberattack allegedly targeted digital information displays and public announcement systems at several locations: two airports located in British Columbia, Windsor International Airport in Ontario, and Harrisburg International Airport in Pennsylvania.
Photographs shared by news outlets show the airport screens displaying the message “Israel lost the war, Hamas won the war honorably,” alongside derogatory comments about former U.S. President Donald Trump.
The phrase “Hacked by Mutarrif Siberislam” appeared on the screens, suggesting a signature from the perpetrators. Audio messages reportedly included chants such as “Free Palestine” and verbal attacks on both Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Officials at Kelowna airport verified the breach, explaining that an external party had managed to infiltrate the systems controlling both flight information screens and the public address system.
A representative for Victoria International Airport confirmed a similar intrusion, though limited to the public speaker system.
Transport Canada acknowledged awareness of the cybersecurity breaches, including a separate incident at Windsor International Airport.
Authorities in Harrisburg confirmed the matter is under active investigation by local, state, and federal agencies.
