WHO Regional Panel Meetings For Eastern Mediterranean Discuss Several Key Topics

Cairo: The State of Qatar is participating in the seventy-second session of the World Health Organisation's (WHO) Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean, which opened yesterday in Cairo and will continue for three days under the theme“Together for a Healthier Future: Action. Access. Equity.”

The Qatari delegation to the session is headed by Minister of Public Health HE Mansoor bin Ebrahim Al Mahmoud.

The meetings are discussing a number of key topics, including reports on health issues affecting populations impacted by disasters and emergencies, addressing noncommunicable diseases in emergency situations, the strategy for promoting the health and well-being of refugees, migrants and internally displaced populations in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, as well as the eradication of poliomyelitis and the response to its outbreaks, and tackling diabetes as one of the region's major public health challenges.

The meetings also address the strategic framework for implementing the Immunisation Agenda 2030 in the region, the regional strategic framework for blood safety and availability, and strengthening the nursing workforce to advance universal health coverage in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.

In addition, the meetings are reviewing several technical papers, including the development of a regional implementation framework and action plan on climate change and health in the Eastern Mediterranean Region, as well as the latest updates on the implementation of the WHO Transformation Agenda in the region.
