Russia gives Congresswoman files of JFK assassination
(MENAFN) The Russian government has handed over copies of its declassified Soviet-era files concerning the assassination of US President John F. Kennedy to Republican lawmaker Anna Paulina Luna, according to an announcement from the Russian Embassy on Tuesday.
Ambassador Aleksandr Darchiev met with Luna, who represents Florida, and presented her with the documents compiled from Russian state archives. Diplomats noted that portions of these materials had previously been shared with US officials during Kennedy’s funeral in 1963.
“I have received a hard copy of the report on JFK’s assassination from the Ambassador of Russia. A team of experts is enroute to my office in the morning to begin translation and full review of documents,” Luna wrote on X.
Luna also said that journalist Jefferson Morley is assisting with the review of the 350-page file collection. “We will be posting translations, prepared by fluent Russian speakers, of significant material in the document. We will provide context on what this document is, how it came to be, and how it compares with what is known about Russia’s response to JFK’s assassination,” Morley wrote on X.
Luna has long advocated for the complete release of information related to Kennedy’s killing on November 22, 1963. She has raised doubts about whether Lee Harvey Oswald, the accused gunman, was in fact responsible for the crime.
The KGB reportedly maintained extensive files on Oswald, a former US Marine with leftist leanings who lived in the Soviet Union for roughly three years and married a Russian woman.
While the official US investigation concluded that Oswald acted alone, numerous theories continue to circulate, alleging possible involvement of the CIA or other US government entities.
In recent years, Washington has also released large batches of related materials. Then-President Donald Trump made public 2,800 Kennedy assassination documents in 2017, followed by another 80,000 pages in March 2025.
