China Rolls Out eSIM Services Countrywide
(MENAFN) China’s top three telecom providers — China Telecom, China Mobile, and China Unicom — have officially rolled out eSIM phone services across the country, marking a major step in the nationwide adoption of embedded SIM technology.
China Telecom confirmed that its eSIM services are now available throughout China. Customers can either walk into physical retail locations or use the company's mobile app to schedule an appointment, then complete activation at a designated outlet.
China Mobile announced that its eSIM offering will span a broad range of connected devices. In addition to smartphones, the service will support smartwatches, tablets, and even in-vehicle systems.
An eSIM, or embedded SIM, replaces the need for a traditional physical SIM card by embedding the SIM function directly into a device’s hardware. With eSIM-capable phones, users can download and activate mobile numbers remotely onto the built-in chip—eliminating the need to insert a card manually. Functionally, eSIM devices still provide standard telecom services such as voice calls, text messaging, and mobile internet.
