Yamaha And TOYO Automation Form Joint Venture TY Robotics To Boost Industrial Robot Production
October 14, 2025 by Sam Francis
Yamaha Motor has established a new joint venture with Taiwanese company TOYO Automation to strengthen its position in the industrial robotics market and expand production capacity.
The company announced that the new company – TY Robotics Co., Ltd. – was officially founded in August 2025, with operations based at Yamaha's Miyakoda office in Hamamatsu, Japan. Production is scheduled to begin in January 2026.
According to Yamaha,“the founding of this new company is part of Yamaha Motor's overall industrial robot business strategy”.
The company plans to gradually transfer production of its single-axis and Cartesian robots to TY Robottics over the coming years.
TOYO, headquartered in Tainan, Taiwan, is an established manufacturer of single-axis actuators and factory automation equipment.
The company has benefited from rising global demand for semiconductors, smartphones, and broader automation solutions across multiple industries.
Yamaha first invested in TOYO in March 2019, beginning a cooperative relationship that has included OEM supply of select robot models, such as motorless single-axis actuators.
Yamaha said the new venture represents“part of Yamaha Motor's strategy to strengthen the competitiveness of its robotics business”.
By transferring production of certain robot models to TY Robotics, the company aims“to significantly shorten lead times from order to shipment while further expanding its product lineup”.
The move aligns with Yamaha's long-term ambition to grow its industrial automation segment – an area the company has steadily developed alongside its traditional businesses in motorcycles, marine products, and mobility systems.
Industry analysts note that demand for Cartesian and single-axis robots is rising as manufacturers seek more flexible and cost-effective automation for electronics, logistics, and component assembly lines.
The collaboration with TOYO is expected to give Yamaha greater manufacturing efficiency and faster access to the Asian robotics supply chain.
Yamaha Motor trades on the Tokyo Stock Exchange under ticker 7272.
