(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump expressed doubt over whether he will enter heaven, even as he takes credit for mediating a resolution between Israel and Hamas.

While traveling to Israel on Air Force One on Sunday, Trump was asked if ending the conflict in Gaza would secure him a spot in heaven. “I’m being a little cute,” Trump responded with a smile and a chuckle. “I don’t think there’s anything going to get me in heaven. I think I’m not maybe heaven-bound. I may be in heaven right now as we fly on Air Force One. I’m not sure I’m going to be able to make heaven, but I’ve made life a lot better for a lot of people.”

The president also highlighted his diplomatic record, asserting that the dispute between Israel and Hamas would mark “the eighth war that I’ve solved.”

Reports indicate that on Monday, Hamas released the final 20 Israeli hostages in return for roughly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. Prior to the exchange, the Israeli military paused offensive operations and pulled back from portions of the Gaza Strip.

Later that day, Trump, along with leaders from Egypt, Qatar, and Türkiye, endorsed a ceasefire and a framework for “comprehensive and durable peace arrangements” in Sharm el-Sheikh, located in Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

Trump’s 20-point peace plan envisions Gaza transforming into a “deradicalized terror-free zone.” While Hamas agreed to the outlined prisoner swap, it has not committed to disarming or relinquishing authority in the enclave. Israel, likewise, has yet to pledge a complete withdrawal from the territory.

Raised in the Presbyterian faith, Trump has historically enjoyed significant backing from Evangelical Christian communities throughout his political career.
