A 26-year-old Afghan prisoner, identified as Hazrat Ishaqzai, has reportedly been transferred to solitary confinement in Isfahan prison for the execution of his death sentence, according to human rights group Haalvsh.

The rights group said Ishaqzai, a native of Afghanistan's Farah province, had been convicted on drug-related charges by Iran's Revolutionary Court three years ago.

He was arrested in Isfahan and later sentenced to death for alleged narcotics offenses. His transfer to solitary confinement on Monday indicates his execution could be imminent, the group added.

Human rights organizations have repeatedly raised concerns over the growing number of executions of Afghan nationals in Iran, most of whom face charges related to drug trafficking or murder.

Reports from groups such as Iran Human Rights and Hengaw suggest that Afghan citizens make up the largest group of foreign nationals on death row in Iran.

Many of these executions are reportedly carried out without prior notice to families or legal representatives, prompting calls for greater transparency and adherence to international human rights standards.

Rights advocates have also warned that Afghan detainees often face unfair trials, lack of legal defense, and limited access to interpreters, in violation of due process norms.

Observers say the increasing number of executions underscores the broader issue of migrant vulnerability and judicial opacity in Iran, particularly as thousands of Afghans continue to live under precarious conditions in the country.
