OpenAI, Broadcom Join Forces to Roll Out 10 Gigawatt AI Accelerators
(MENAFN) US-based AI leader OpenAI revealed on Monday a strategic partnership with chip manufacturer Broadcom to design and roll out its own 10 gigawatt AI accelerators.
In an official statement, OpenAI explained, "OpenAI will design the accelerators and systems, which will be developed and deployed in partnership with Broadcom. By designing its own chips and systems, OpenAI can embed what it’s learned from developing frontier models and products directly into the hardware, unlocking new levels of capability and intelligence."
Broadcom aims to begin installing AI accelerator racks and network infrastructure in the latter half of 2026, with full deployment expected by the close of 2029.
The announcement also highlighted OpenAI’s rapid growth, boasting over 800 million weekly active users. This collaboration is positioned as a critical step toward fulfilling its mission to "ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity."
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized, “Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity."
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan added, "OpenAI has been in the forefront of the AI revolution since the ChatGPT moment, and we are thrilled to co-develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of next generation accelerators and network systems to pave the way for the future of AI."
This latest alliance expands OpenAI’s roster of chip collaborators, which already includes AMD, Oracle, and Nvidia.
Notably, OpenAI has committed to roughly 33 gigawatts of computing power through recent partnerships with AMD, Broadcom, Oracle, and Nvidia over the past three weeks alone.
