OpenAI Partners with Broadcom
(MENAFN) US-based artificial intelligence leader OpenAI revealed on Monday a strategic alliance with semiconductor company Broadcom to develop and implement its own 10-gigawatt AI accelerators.
This significant move aims to bolster OpenAI’s infrastructure to support the increasing demands of artificial intelligence development.
According to a company statement, "OpenAI will design the accelerators and systems, which will be developed and deployed in partnership with Broadcom."
The organization emphasized that by creating its own hardware, it can incorporate the expertise it has gained from building cutting-edge AI models directly into the physical components, thereby achieving “new levels of capability and intelligence.”
The timeline for the project, as shared by Broadcom, includes beginning the installation of AI accelerator racks and networking systems in the latter half of 2026, with the goal of finalizing the deployment by the end of 2029.
The announcement also highlighted that OpenAI currently serves over 800 million weekly active users. The partnership is expected to propel the company’s ongoing efforts to "ensure that artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity."
OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman commented, “Developing our own accelerators adds to the broader ecosystem of partners all building the capacity required to push the frontier of AI to provide benefits to all humanity."
His remarks underline the broader vision of AI advancement as a collective effort involving multiple stakeholders.
Echoing this sentiment, Broadcom CEO Hock Tan stated, "OpenAI has been in the forefront of the AI revolution since the ChatGPT moment, and we are thrilled to co-develop and deploy 10 gigawatts of next generation accelerators and network systems to pave the way for the future of AI."
