Trump Considers Discussing Tomahawk Missiles for Ukraine
(MENAFN) U.S. President Donald Trump stated he may initiate a conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin regarding the United States' potential decision to deliver long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine.
Addressing journalists on Sunday, Trump acknowledged that Ukraine “would like to have Tomahawks,” but indicated he might raise the topic directly with the Russian leader.
He remarked, “I might say, look, if this war is not going to get settled, I’m going to send them Tomahawks,” adding that providing such advanced weaponry to Kyiv would represent “a new step of aggression.”
Recently, Trump revealed he had reached a conclusion on the matter of Ukraine receiving the missiles, though he emphasized the importance of determining “where are they sending them” before taking final action.
The Tomahawk missile, priced at approximately $1.3 million apiece, boasts an operational range of up to 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles), placing targets such as Moscow well within reach.
In reaction to the possibility of Washington equipping Ukraine with these U.S.-manufactured weapons, Putin warned that Moscow's countermeasure “would be the strengthening of the Russian Federation’s air defenses.”
He further contended that Ukrainian forces are unlikely to effectively utilize such advanced systems without the “direct participation of American military personnel.”
