Zelensky Appeals to Trump for Long-Range Missiles
(MENAFN) Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has called on US President Donald Trump to supply Ukraine with long-range Tomahawk missiles.
Zelensky emphasized that if this move helps secure a ceasefire, Kiev would nominate Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize.
Last month, US Vice President J.D. Vance mentioned that Washington was considering sending Ukraine Tomahawk missiles, which have a maximum reach of 2,500 kilometers (1,550 miles).
This range would potentially allow Kiev to target Moscow and various other cities in Russia.
“Now, an important signal is the strengthening of Ukraine by all possible means. And this is one of those opportunities that is important to me – Tomahawks,” Zelensky told reporters on Thursday, according to a news agency.
Zelensky further stated that if Trump manages to help initiate a ceasefire, “he should be nominated for the Nobel Prize, we will nominate him on behalf of Ukraine.”
He suggested that the missiles could “sober up the Russians” and compel them to “make them sit down at the negotiating table.”
Moscow, however, claims that Kiev, encouraged by military aid from Western Europe, has stalled the peace negotiations.
Meanwhile, according to a media outlet, White House officials have voiced worries about whether the US could effectively control how the Tomahawks would be used once in Ukrainian possession.
Recently, Trump indicated he had already decided on whether to supply the missiles but did not reveal what that decision was. “I’m not looking to see escalation,” he added.
