Amman, Oct. 11 (Petra) – Senator Hussein Al-Majali took part in the 71st annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Jordan's participation in this session, which runs from Oct. 10 to 13, comes as a Mediterranean Dialogue partner country alongside the 32 NATO member states.
According to a statement by the Senate on Saturday, the current session, hosted in Ljubljana, Slovenia's capital, includes meetings of the Committees on Defense and Security, Civil Dimension of Security, Economics and Security, Science and Technology, and Political Affairs.
During the Defense and Security Committee meeting, Al-Majali underscored the importance of security and defense as fundamental necessities for ensuring the stability of nations and the welfare of their societies. He said security helps safeguard basic human rights, including the right to life and safety, while also providing an enabling environment for investment, work, and creativity driving economic and social development.
On the sidelines of the session, Al-Majali met with the Swedish parliamentary delegation led by J?rgen Berglund to discuss a range of issues of mutual interest between the two friendly countries.
He also met with the Algerian delegation headed by El Hajj Nour, Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee of Algeria's Council of the Nation, where Al-Majali highlighted the brotherly Jordanian-Algerian relations and ways to further strengthen them, particularly at the parliamentary level.
For his part, Nour emphasized the depth of fraternal ties between the two countries, expressing Algeria's appreciation for Jordan's role, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah II, in facilitating the evacuation of its citizens stranded aboard the Freedom Flotilla.
Established in 1955, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly serves as a forum for parliamentarians from member states and Mediterranean partner countries to discuss defense and security policy issues in their broadest sense.
