October's Full Moon Is Larger And Brighter Than Usual

Doha: October's full moon rose late Monday and peaked into early Tuesday in Qatar and most parts of the world.

Called the Harvest Moon due to its proximity to the autumnal equinox, it is also the first of three consecutive supermoons in a row that will grace nighttime skies this year.

According to NASA, this supermoon will be 97 percent or greater fullness until tomorrow, October 8.

A supermoon occurs when the moon is both at its fullest and its closest to earth. It is during this time that the Moon appears as much as 14 percent larger and 30 percent brighter than a regular full moon.

The next two supermoons this year will rise on November 5 and December 4.
