Putin Compares Soviet Union to Current US, EU Policies

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has likened the Soviet Union’s historical behavior to the current actions of the United States and the European Union, accusing them of trying to enforce their political frameworks on other nations.

During a plenary meeting at the Valdai Discussion Club held in Sochi on Thursday, Putin remarked that political systems that attempt to impose their values on foreign countries are inherently unstable and unsustainable.

“The Soviet Union once erred by imposing its system. Then, the United States has taken up that baton. The EU has also distinguished itself,” the president stated.

Putin ended his remarks by emphasizing, “A nation that respects its own tradition, as a rule, does not encroach on the traditions of others.”
