Trump Claims Denial of Nobel Peace Prize Would Insult US

(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump has implied that refusing to award him the Nobel Peace Prize would be a slight against the United States.

Addressing senior military officials in Quantico, Virginia, on Tuesday, Trump expressed frustration over being repeatedly bypassed for the prestigious accolade, despite his belief that his achievements warrant the honor.

He highlighted his most recent Middle East peace initiative, asserting that it marked the eighth conflict he has helped resolve within just eight months.

“We’ll have eight, eight in eight months… Will you get the Nobel Prize? Absolutely not,” Trump remarked, before adding, “They’ll give it to some guy that didn’t do a damn thing.”

Jokingly, the president suggested the award might instead be granted to a writer, emphasizing that he was not seeking personal accolades.

“It’ll be a big insult to our country, I will tell you that. I don’t want it. I want the country to get it,” he said.

Trump also asserted that he has brokered peace in various disputes, including those between Cambodia and Thailand, Kosovo and Serbia, Congo and Rwanda, Israel and Iran, Egypt and Ethiopia, Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as Pakistan and India.

Earlier this year, Trump’s bid for the Nobel Peace Prize gained backing from the leaders of Israel and Cambodia.

Additionally, Pakistan officially nominated him, crediting him with easing tensions in its conflict with India.
