Medvedev Says "Russia Does Not Need War with Europe"
(MENAFN) Russia's Security Council Deputy Chairman, Dmitry Medvedev, issued a stern warning on Monday, urging that speculation in European nations regarding a potential war with Russia over the next five years is unfounded and runs counter to Moscow’s interests.
“Russia does not need a war with anyone in principle, including with the frigid old Europe. There is nothing to gain there,” Medvedev wrote on his Telegram channel.
He further criticized Europe's economic fragility, labeling the continent as "weak and dependent on the US." Medvedev also accused Europe of losing its cultural identity, claiming it was "dissolving into aggressive migrants."
Dismissive of the idea that European nations might instigate a conflict, Medvedev argued that they are “vulnerable and divided.” However, he acknowledged the risk of a “fatal accident” that could trigger a dangerous escalation, potentially leading to the use of weapons of mass destruction.
Medvedev, who served as Russia's president from 2008 to 2012, has consistently made strong anti-Western remarks throughout the ongoing Ukraine conflict. His latest comments come amid intensifying discussions across Europe regarding defense spending and overall security readiness.
