GAM Declares Light Emergency As Weather Depression Impacts Jordan
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Feb. 13 (Petra)-- The Greater Amman Municipality (GAM) has declared a light state of emergency effective Friday evening in response to a weather depression affecting the Kingdom.
GAM's spokesperson, Nasser Al-Rahamneh, said in a press statement that municipal teams are fully prepared on the ground to respond to any reports received by the Tla' Al-Ali Emergency Operations Room. He urged residents to contact the unified call center at 102 or 117180 to report any incidents or observations.
Al-Rahamneh called on citizens to exercise caution, particularly by staying away from valleys and low-lying areas, and to avoid the random disposal of waste, which can block stormwater drainage systems.
He also stressed the importance of inspecting submersible pumps in basements and commercial premises located below street level. Shop owners were advised to take preventive measures when storing goods in warehouses and basement levels.
Additionally, Al-Rahamneh urged contractors and construction site owners to secure building materials to prevent them from being washed away and causing blockages in rainwater drainage lines.
