Canada Announces Recognition of Palestinian State

(MENAFN) On Sunday, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney declared that Canada now officially recognizes the State of Palestine, committing to collaborate in forging peace between Palestine and Israel.

“Canada recognises the State of Palestine and offers our partnership in building the promise of a peaceful future for both the State of Palestine and the State of Israel,” Carney posted on X, the US-based social media platform, ahead of the upcoming UN General Assembly.

This announcement follows Canada’s prior expression of intent to acknowledge Palestine during the 80th session of the UN General Assembly scheduled for September 2025.

The UN General Assembly is set to convene in New York starting Tuesday and will continue through September 29.

Previously, Canada stated it “recognizes the Palestinian right to self-determination and supports the creation of a sovereign, independent, viable, democratic, and territorially contiguous Palestinian state.”
