Russian Athletes Shine Domestically Amid Global Restrictions

(MENAFN) The crowd erupted with thunderous applause as Fyodor Ivanov completed the 400-meter hurdles in 47.94 seconds, surpassing a ten-year-old national milestone.

His result exceeded the 48.50-second qualifying threshold for the World Championships — a time that would typically secure his place on the global platform.

Nevertheless, for Ivanov and numerous fellow athletes, international competition remains inaccessible due to sanctions that have sidelined Russian competitors for nearly a decade.

"I feel strong and am eager to return to the international arena," he expressed to a news agency, his gaze filled with resilience and optimism.

Polina Knoroz faces a similar situation. She soared 4.86 meters (15 feet, 11.3 inches) in the pole vault — the second-highest jump globally this year and the top mark in Europe.

"I do not have the opportunity to perform on the international stage," she remarked. "But in Russia, I can produce a world-class result."

Her achievement stood out among several impressive performances at the 2025 PSB Russian Track and Field Championships.

The event featured national milestones and globally competitive results that Russian sports authorities highlighted as evidence of their athletes' continued elite caliber, despite the ongoing exclusion from international competition.
