Gaza Bleeds: Israeli Bombardment Kills 40 More Civilians

(MENAFN) The Israeli military killed at least 40 Palestinians, including two children, in a series of airstrikes across the Gaza Strip on Friday, according to medical sources and official media reports. The attacks, which targeted residential buildings in Gaza City, have further escalated the ongoing conflict that has plagued the region for nearly two years.

The Israeli army’s continued assault on Gaza has been genocidal, with reports indicating that the aim is to reoccupy Gaza City and forcibly displace its population.

Witnesses and medical sources, speaking to media, reported that Israeli airstrikes hit tents housing displaced families as well as civilian gatherings across various parts of Gaza. In central Gaza, one Palestinian was killed and others wounded after an Israeli strike targeted a civilian gathering on Al-Azayza Street in Deir al-Balah.

In the Nuseirat refugee camp, another Palestinian lost their life and several others were injured in a separate airstrike near the Abu Srar junction. Israeli forces also bombed a tent sheltering displaced families in the same camp, killing one and injuring several others.

In southern Gaza, Israeli shelling early in the morning struck a displacement tent in the Al-Mawasi area west of Khan Younis, killing two siblings, both children, and wounding several others.

A Palestinian news agency reported that 14 additional Palestinians were killed by Israeli gunfire and shelling in various parts of the Gaza Strip. The dead included victims whose bodies were transferred to multiple medical facilities: five were brought to Al-Shifa Medical Complex, three to Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, five to Al-Awda Hospital, and one to Al-Aqsa Hospital, according to the news agency.

In Gaza City itself, the military intensified its bombardment, claiming the lives of 21 more Palestinians. Several others were injured when Israeli shelling struck a displacement tent near Al-Tawhid Mosque in the Al-Shati refugee camp. Six additional people, including women and children, were wounded by artillery fire near Al-Sousi junction in the same camp.

Witnesses reported that the Israeli army used remotely controlled explosive vehicles to detonate buildings and facilities near the intelligence headquarters area in northwest Gaza City, as well as in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in the city’s southern region.

In Rafah, Israeli forces also injured several Palestinians who were waiting to receive aid in the Shakoush area, with gunfire targeting the aid distribution point.

Since May 27, Israel has been running a controversial aid distribution system through the so-called “Gaza Humanitarian Foundation.” The initiative, which Palestinians have dubbed “death traps,” is not recognized by the UN or international aid organizations. Multiple reports have indicated that Israeli forces have regularly targeted civilians waiting for aid at these locations, resulting in numerous fatalities and injuries.

Since the beginning of the conflict on October 7, 2023, more than 65,000 Palestinians have been killed, most of them women and children. The ongoing violence has also led to widespread displacement and a devastating famine that has already claimed the lives of at least 435 people, including 147 children. The situation remains dire as the war continues unabated, with no clear resolution in sight.
