Amman, Sept 20 (Petra) – The Association of Banks in Jordan (ABJ) won the presidency of the Union of Arab Banks (UAB) Advisory Board at a meeting in Beirut on Thursday, which drew wide participation of representatives of Arab banks.
Jordan's choice reflects the leading role of the ABJ at local and regional levels, commented UAB Secretary-General Wissam Fattouh. He stressed the board's role as an advisory body, which seeks to enhance consultation and exchange of expertise among national associations and unify positions, contributing to the development of a common vision on regional and international banking matters.
ABJ CEO Maher Al-Mahrouq said Jordan's election is a key indicator of the reputation and standing of the national banking system, and the robust role played by the ABJ, both regionally and internationally, thanks to its expertise and history in the banking business.
The advisory body, he said, will take the key tasks of enhancing coordination and consultation among Arab banking entities, boosting Arab cooperation in addressing global banking and financial challenges and giving a voice to Arab banks in international forums through the UAB.
