Kanaan: Inauguration Of Fiji's Embassy In Occupied Jerusalem Defies Int'l Law

Amman, September 18 (Petra) - Secretary-General of Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs (RCJA), Abdullah Tawfiq Kanaan, said Fiji's move to open an embassy in occupied Jerusalem defies international will.
Kanaan added that the step also marks a "clear" violation of international law and resolutions that consider Jerusalem an occupied city with a special legal status, without Israeli sovereignty.
In remarks to "Petra" Thursday, Kanaan said diplomacy, which is "supposedly" based on the values ??of global peace and security, has become restricted to interests at the expense of adherence to international law and respect for the rights of peoples.
Kanaan noted any action that contravenes international legitimacy resolutions on Jerusalem is null and void.
"Any action by countries to open a consulate or embassy in occupied Jerusalem with Israel's approval constitutes a violation of international law," he pointed out.
Israel, he stated, is working to encourage countries to relocate and open embassies and consulates in Jerusalem under several steps.
The committee, according to Kanaan, affirmed any inauguration of an embassy in Jerusalem represents support for the Israel's occupation's policies, based on discrimination and aggression, especially aimd the growing international recognition of the Palestinian state.
This stance was clear in the international community's demand, during the recent New York meeting, for a two-state solution as the path to achieving peace and security in the region.
"Such measures will not contribute to achieving security and peace, but will rather further complicate the situation and threaten regional and international stability," he said.
Kanaan noted Jordanian diplomacy, under guidance of His Majesty King Abdullah II, Hashemite Custodian of Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, will continue to support the Palestinian people in their struggle to achieve their legitimate rights and establish an independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
