Palestinian President Praises Qatar's Pivotal Mediation Role
(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has said that the brutal Israeli attack on Qatar constitutes a violation of international law, and a dangerous escalation that threatens Arab, regional, and international security and stability.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), ahead of the emergency Arab-Islamic summit in Doha today, President Abbas said that the message and goal of participating in the Doha Summit are clear and constant, emphasising that Qatar's security is an integral part of Arab and Islamic national security, and that they all stand united in confronting these attacks.
Regarding the repercussions of the Israeli attack on Arab and Islamic security, he said that it represents a dangerous indicator that seeks to undermine shared Arab and Islamic security and destabilise the region. He stressed that a unified Arab and Islamic response is essential to protect collective security.
As for the Arab position and diplomatic steps to stop the attacks, he stressed the need for the Arab and Islamic position to be equal to this challenge, through diplomatic steps and urgent and decisive deterrent measures, in addition to holding Israel accountable for its ongoing violations against Qatar, Palestine, and other Arab countries.
He also stressed the need to expedite the entry of humanitarian aid, full withdrawal of the occupation forces from the Gaza Strip, cessation of settlement activity and settler terrorism in the West Bank and Jerusalem, return of seized Palestinian funds, move forward with reconstruction and ending the occupation of the entire territory of the State of Palestine, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The Palestinian president also praised the role played by Qatar under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, noting Qatar's steadfast position in support of the Palestinian cause, which proves that peoples and countries that defend truth and justice are capable of thwarting the schemes of aggressors.
Holding this summit in Doha reflects Qatar's prestigious position in the Arab and Islamic worlds and its pivotal and valued mediation role, alongside Egypt, to halt the Israeli aggression against Palestinian people, release hostages and prisoners, provide humanitarian assistance, and defend the Palestinian cause in all international forums, he added.
President Mahmoud stressed that targeting residential areas in Qatar aims to undermine Arab and Islamic unity, emphasising that the emergency summit proves that our nation is more cohesive and resilient in the face of attempts at division and aggression, and that Qatar is not alone. (QNA)
