Six Gaza-Bound Activists Still Detained in Israeli Custody

(MENAFN) Six international activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla en route to Gaza remain held in Israeli custody, the Israeli legal center Adalah confirmed Tuesday.

“Six participants who were aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, unlawfully intercepted and detained on their way to Gaza amid the ongoing genocide, remain in Israeli detention,” the center declared in an official statement.

The detained individuals include citizens from Norway, Morocco, and Spain. Adalah pledged to persistently “demand their immediate release.”

The legal group also announced that its attorneys have formally requested access to the activists, seeking to visit them on Wednesday should they still be detained.

Earlier reports from Israeli media indicated that the detention of Spanish activist Reyes Rigo Cervilla was extended by one week.

In a related development, Israeli authorities deported over 130 activists via Jordan early Tuesday.

Last week, Israeli naval forces confronted a flotilla comprising more than 40 vessels attempting to breach Israel’s long-standing blockade of Gaza, detaining over 470 activists from more than 50 countries.

Israel’s blockade of Gaza, a densely populated territory of nearly 2.4 million people, has been in place for almost 18 years.

Since October 2023, relentless Israeli bombardments have claimed over 67,100 Palestinian lives in Gaza, the majority women and children, leaving the enclave devastated and uninhabitable.
