Chinese Envoy Reaffirms Support For Jordan's Stability, Regional Role
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Sept. 14 (Petra) -- China has reiterated its support for Jordan's efforts to safeguard national security and stability and reaffirmed its respect for the Hashemite Custodianship of holy sites in Jerusalem, underscoring Amman's role as a key actor in regional stability.
Chinese Embassy Chargé d'Affaires in Amman, Gong Anmin, said Beijing attaches great importance to strengthening its strategic partnership with Jordan, which this year marks its 10th anniversary. He noted that the relationship has expanded across political, economic, and cultural fields, with the two countries maintaining close coordination on regional issues including Palestine and Syria.
In an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Gong stressed China's appreciation for Jordan's adherence to the "One China" principle and highlighted Beijing's humanitarian assistance provided through Jordan to Palestinians, alongside planned medical aid for refugees and financial support for UNRWA. He added that China is also backing projects in Jordan to assist Syrian refugees.
Economic ties have grown steadily, with bilateral trade reaching $5.37 billion in 2024 and $3.23 billion in the first half of 2025, a 26% increase compared with the previous year. Beijing also plans to support Jordan's "Smart Education" project and JunCao grass cultivation, while more than 600 Jordanians are expected to participate in training programs in China across health, media, economics, and culture.
Gong described Jordan and China as natural partners under the Belt and Road Initiative, noting that Beijing is encouraging Chinese companies to invest in the Kingdom and take part in major infrastructure projects.
He also underlined cultural and educational cooperation, citing Chinese participation in Jordanian festivals, a twinning agreement between Petra and Jiayuguan, new scholarship programs, and the launch of the first Chinese-language master's program at Philadelphia University.
On regional affairs, Gong reaffirmed China's commitment to the two-state solution as the only realistic settlement to the Palestinian conflict, calling for an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. He rejected any Israeli attempts to reoccupy Gaza or undermine the two-state framework.
Looking forward, Gong said China and Jordan share common ground in promoting a more just global governance system under initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping. He expressed confidence that both countries would continue to advance political modernization, economic development, and international cooperation.
