An Additional Sessions Judge in Peshawar on Thursday sentenced former Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Raza Ali to life imprisonment for killing his wife and attempting to murder his daughter, Saima Ali, and son, Daniyal Abbas. The court also ordered him to pay Rs20 million in compensation to the injured children.

According to the prosecution, the convict opened fire on his wife during a domestic dispute, as she wanted to take up a job due to financial difficulties. His wife died on the spot while both children sustained injuries. They survived after receiving timely medical treatment.

Advocate Nauman Mohib Kakakhel, counsel for the complainant, argued that the accused was strongly opposed to his wife working and frequent quarrels had driven them to live separately. He had also taken one of his young daughters with him. On the day of the incident, the girl returned home with her siblings, enraging the accused, who stormed into the house and opened indiscriminate fire.

“Raza Ali intentionally fired with the intent to kill his wife and children. Witness testimonies, medical records, and forensic evidence all established his guilt,” Advocate Kakakhel told the court.

Court records also noted that the accused confessed before a judicial magistrate, admitting that he was under the influence of hashish at the time of the shooting. The confession was corroborated by medical and eyewitness evidence, further strengthening the case.

After reviewing all evidence and arguments, the court handed him a life sentence and ordered Rs20 million compensation for his children.
