Sunflower fields in Jamrud tehsil have reached full bloom, marking a season of optimism and economic opportunity for local farmers. The golden flowers, creating a picturesque landscape, are expected to significantly boost farmers' incomes once sold in the market.

Farmers report that this year's sunflower heads have grown up to 13 inches in diameter, demonstrating that the region offers highly favorable conditions for the crop. Following hybrid maize, sunflower is now considered one of the most successful crops in Khyber district.

Two years ago, on the directives of Khyber District Agriculture Director Zia
Salam Dawar, training sessions and awareness programs were held to promote sunflower cultivation.

Farmers were also provided free hybrid seeds, a move that enabled them to achieve higher yields and even produce quality cooking oil at the household level.

Agricultural experts note that sunflower farming benefits both soil fertility and the environment, while the vibrant blooms have also become an attraction for photography enthusiasts and tourism. Farmers believe that if the government expands cultivation to more land in the coming years, the region could become self-sufficient in edible oil production.

According to local growers, the sunflower crop has not only improved their economic situation but has also created employment opportunities for villagers.
