OIC Fms Push For Immediate Gaze Ceasefire, Aid Delivery

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) JEDDAH, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The foreign ministers of Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states on Monday vociferously called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, allowing the subsequent delivery of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian enclave.
The ministers, amid extraordinary talks in Saudi Arabia's Red Sea city of Jeddah, collectively deplored Israel's refusal to respond to mediation efforts aiming to put in place a ceasefire in Gaza, nearly two years after Israeli Occupation forced launched an onslaught on the Palestinian enclave, according to a unanimous decision the gathering yielded.
It condemned in the strongest terms plan approved by the Israeli cabinet to take full military control of the Gaza Strip and relocating nearly a million of Palestinians, slamming such a scenario as a "dangerous precedent" and an unacceptable escalation.
It went on to castigate Israeli Occupation forces for the "criminal" acts perpetrated against the Palestinians, which include mass genocide and the use of starvation as a "method of warfare," all of which constitute flagrant violations of international laws and humanitarian principles.
The ministers also deplored in equal measure the expansion of Israeli military operations in Gaza, leaving infrastructure there in tatters and completely eroding the Palestinian enclave's food security, as evidenced by the findings of a UN-backed body that confirmed widespread famine in Gaza and surrounding areas.
The decision underlined the need for the international community to ramp up the delivery of aid to the Palestinians, while condemning any effort to alter the "demographic" landscape of the Gaza Strip or forcibly displace the Palestinians, both of which amount to an unprecedented escalation of violence and an affront to international laws and United Nations conventions, it said.
As a growing number of nations join a global push to recognize Palestinian statehood, it valued such a move as a historic show of support for the inalienable rights of the Palestinians and a step towards bringing their statehood aspirations to fruition. (pickup previous)
