Palestinian Presidency Urges Int'l Community To Protect Journalist

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Aug 25 (KUNA) -- The Palestinian Presidency on Monday called for urgent action by the international community, especially the UN and Security Council, to protect journalists and hold Israeli occupation accountable for its crimes against media.
In a statement, the presidency said Israeli occupation forces committed heinous crimes at Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, where five journalists were killed while performing their professional and humanitarian duty of covering as a war of genocide against the Palestinian people.
The presidency stressed that targeting journalists constitutes a blatant violation of international law and conventions guaranteeing the safety of journalists and press freedom.
It described the attack as another war crime added to a long record of massacres and crimes committed by the Israeli occupation in an attempt to silencing the Palestinian media's voice of truth.
The presidency held the Israeli occupation government responsible for the crime, urging human rights organizations and relevant international bodies to intervene immediately to stop these systematic attacks against Palestinians.
The attack on the medical complex killed 20 Palestinians, including the five journalists, medical staff, and patients. (end)
