U.S. Raid In Syria Kills Senior ISIS Commander
A senior ISIS commander was killed in a U.S. military raid early Wednesday in northwest Syria, an American official confirmed. No U.S. forces were harmed.
The militant, considered a candidate for ISIS leadership in Syria, was killed while attempting to flee, according to Syrian state media and security sources.
One source identified him as an Iraqi national married to a French woman, though her fate remains unclear.
The Syrian government under Ahmad Shar'a, part of the U.S.-led coalition, reiterated its commitment to blocking any ISIS resurgence.
ISIS once controlled vast areas of Syria and Iraq before its collapse in 2019. Its leaders, including Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi and Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurashi, were also killed in U.S. operations.
The latest strike highlights Washington's ongoing effort to dismantle ISIS networks, while experts warn remnants of the group remain capable of destabilizing the region.
