Istanbul witnesses drinking water shortages
(MENAFN) Several of Türkiye’s largest cities, including Ankara, Istanbul, and Izmir, are facing dwindling drinking water reserves due to extreme heat and ongoing drought, according to reports.
In Istanbul, dam levels fell to 48.1 percent in August, down from 54.9 percent a year earlier, leaving the city with roughly a four-month supply of drinking water. Ankara’s dams dropped sharply from 32.8 percent last year to 9.3 percent, providing only a three-month supply, while Izmir’s dam capacity fell from 13.2 percent to 4.1 percent, sufficient for about two months.
Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as water scarcity continues to pose a growing challenge.
