Iranian FM reveals latest development of Caucasus
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi held discussions on recent developments in the Caucasus with senior Russian and Armenian officials on Wednesday.
Araghchi met separately with Igor Khovaev, Russia’s special representative for normalizing ties between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and Vahan Kostanyan, Armenia’s deputy foreign minister, during which he also addressed bilateral relations with both countries, according to statements from the Iranian Foreign Ministry.
In both meetings, Araghchi emphasized Iran’s principled support for establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan, noting the importance of resolving regional issues peacefully through efforts by neighboring countries without foreign interference.
Addressing Khovaev, he highlighted the need to "use regional mechanisms to resolve regional issues, promoting cooperation and convergence in the region, and guaranteeing the security and collective interests of countries in the Caucasus."
Araghchi also pointed out that Iran and Russia hold similar positions on key regional and international matters, stressing the importance of continuing and strengthening bilateral consultations and cooperation to protect shared interests.
