Putin brands UAE ‘one of suitable’ destinations for next meeting with Trump
(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin on Thursday named the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as a potential location for a forthcoming meeting with US President Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters at the Kremlin after a meeting with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who was visiting Moscow officially, Putin said the UAE is “one of the suitable” places for the talks. He added that both Russia and the US have expressed interest in holding the meeting, and who proposed it first is no longer relevant.
Regarding a possible trilateral meeting including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Putin expressed openness but emphasized that the right conditions must be established beforehand.
US officials have not yet responded to Putin’s comments.
Putin’s statement came shortly after Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov announced that Moscow and Washington have reached a preliminary agreement to hold a Putin-Trump summit “in the coming days.” Ushakov also noted that the venue has been tentatively agreed upon but further details will be disclosed later, with next week targeted for the meeting.
If it takes place, this would be the first in-person meeting between the current Russian and US presidents since Putin met then-US President Joe Biden in Geneva in June 2021.
