After US Open Glory, Alcaraz Turns Focus To His 'First Goal' Of Completing A Career Grand Slam

(MENAFN- IANS) New York, Sep 8 (IANS) After winning his career's sixth major, with his second US Open title, Carlos Alcaraz has now shifted his focus to achieving his biggest goal of completing a career Grand Slam as well as the calendar slam.

Alcaraz has two crowns apiece at Roland Garros, Wimbledon and the US Open in his cabinet. The only major left is the Australian Open, where he will try to secure glory at the start of next season.

“It's my first goal, to be honest. When I just go to the preseason to see what I want to improve, what I want to achieve, Australian Open is there. It's the first or second tournament of the year, and it is always the main goal for me to complete a Career Grand Slam, Calendar Grand Slam. So it's going to be great," Alcaraz said.

Alcaraz defeated Jannik Sinner 6-2, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 to claim his sixth major title and second at the US Open and became the second youngest male player in history to claim six Grand Slams titles with his victory over Sinner.

With his win in New York, the Spaniard returned to the top spot in ATP rankings for the first time since September 2023 and began his 37th week at No. 1 on Monday.

Reflecting on returning to World No. 1, Alcaraz said,“Since I got the chance to recover the No. 1, it was one of the first goals that I had during the season, just to try to recover the No. 1 as soon as possible or end the year as the No. 1.

“For me, achieving that once again, it is a dream. Doing [it] in the same day as getting another Grand Slam feels even better. It's everything I'm working for, and I'm really happy to be able to live these experiences," he added.

Notably, after his US Open win, Alcaraz has become the fourth player in history to have won multiple major titles on all three surfaces (two on hard, two on clay and two on grass). He joined Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Mats Wilander on the list.
