Military murders 17 Boko Haram terrorists in n-Nigeria
(MENAFN) The Nigerian Army has killed 17 Boko Haram militants during a series of counterterrorism operations across Borno and Adamawa states, according to a statement released Monday by Captain Reuben Kovangiya, acting director of Army Public Relations for the Theatre Command.
The operations, conducted by the North East Joint Task Force, targeted areas including Bula Daburu, Alau Dam, Bitta, Kawuri, Algambari, Ajiri, and Bulabulin. During these missions, soldiers recovered multiple weapons, including AK-47 rifles, a PKT machine gun, ammunition, and various military equipment.
Additionally, troops seized over 2,300 liters of diesel, 1,000 liters of petrol, generators, motorcycles, solar panels, a tricycle, and food items such as bags of rice. The missions included ambushes, patrols, clearance actions, and logistics denial operations, spanning several local government areas in Borno and Adamawa states, such as Bama, Konduga, Gwoza, Magumeri, Biu, and Michika.
Kovangiya also noted that 14 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted by insurgents were discovered and safely neutralized. These actions were part of Operation HADIN KAI, a coordinated military campaign involving air support and assistance from the Civilian Joint Task Force.
Between July 23 and August 2, 2025, the army also assisted in resettling 987 internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their original homes in Mandaragrau, Biu Local Government Area, in support of the Borno State Government’s resettlement efforts aimed at restoring normalcy and reviving local economies.
Boko Haram has posed a serious security threat in Nigeria since 2009, causing mass casualties, displacing millions, and crippling infrastructure across the northeast. The Nigerian military continues to combat the insurgency, though experts note that a long-term solution must address the underlying drivers of the conflict.
