(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) WASHINGTON, July 23 (KUNA) -- US President Donald J. Trump signed on Wednesday a number of executive orders, establishing "a coordinated national effort to support the American AI industry by promoting the export of full-stack American AI technology packages."
"America is the country that STARTED the AI Race -- and as President of the United States, I'm here today to declare that America is going to WIN it," he said in a speech in Washington.
"As with any such breakthrough, this technology brings the potential for bad as well as good... the daunting power of AI is not going to be a reason for retreat from this new frontier -- it is all the more reason we must ensure it is pioneered FIRST and BEST in America.
"Winning the AI race will demand a new spirit of PATRIOTISM and NATIONAL LOYALTY in Silicon Valley," President Trump pointed out.
"Many of our largest tech companies have reaped the blessings of American freedom while building their factories in China, hiring workers in India -- Under President Trump, those days are OVER.
"My Administration will use every tool at our disposal to ensure that the United States can build and maintain the largest, most powerful, and most advanced AI infrastructure anywhere on the planet -- It's time to reclaim our heritage as a nation of builders," he added.
Meanwhile, the White House said in a press release that Artificial intelligence is a foundational technology that will define the future of economic growth, national security, and global competitiveness for decades to come.
"The United States must not only lead in developing general-purpose and frontier AI capabilities, but also ensure that American AI technologies, standards, and governance models are adopted worldwide to strengthen relationships with our allies and secure our continued technological dominance," according to the statement.
"It is the policy of the United States to preserve and extend American leadership in AI and decrease international dependence on AI technologies developed by our adversaries by supporting the global deployment of United States-origin AI technologies.
"Within 90 days of the date of this order, the Secretary of Commerce shall, in consultation with the Secretary of State and the Director of the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), establish and implement the American AI Exports Program -- to support the development and deployment of United States full-stack AI export packages," it added.
