Arab League Underlines Importance Of Ceasefire In Gaza
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
CAIRO, July 20 (KUNA) -- The Arab League underlined Sunday on the importance of reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza Strip, a top priority to pave the way for early recovery and reconstruction efforts.
In a statement, the League's General Secretariat stated that the remarks came during a meeting between the League's Assistant Secretary-General Ambassador Hossam Zaki and German Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali-Radovan, who is currently visiting Cairo to discuss the humanitarian and political developments in the Gaza Strip.
Zaki said that a ceasefire is the essential step to ensure peace and stability in Gaza Strip, open the way for the implementation of rescue projects, and enhance international reconstruction efforts following the extensive destruction.
During the meeting, Zaki referred to the Gaza Reconstruction Plan adopted by Arab leaders at their emergency summit in early March, stating that it represents a comprehensive vision that begins with relief and early recovery and progresses to full reconstruction, while emphasizing the need for the Palestinian people to remain on their land and prevent any attempts to displace them.
According to the statement, the two sides discussed preparations for the two-state solution conference scheduled to be held in New York at the end of this month.
Ambassador Zaki stressed the importance of holding the conference at this critical time, despite the difficult circumstances facing the Palestinian cause since October 2023.
He noted the General Secretariat's active engagement in the conference's proceedings, as it is leading an important working group in cooperation with the European Union.
For her part, the German Minister expressed her country's interest in supporting efforts to achieve peace and security in Gaza, as well as its support for the Arab reconstruction plan.
She affirmed Germany's commitment to effective cooperation with regional and international parties to ensure that aid is directed fairly and effectively.
The Minister reiterated her country's position in support of the two-state solution and its absolute rejection of any annexation of Palestinian lands, whether in the Gaza Strip or the West Bank. (end)
