Turkish Diplomats Contact with Citizens Held on Sumud Flotilla

(MENAFN) Turkish diplomatic personnel have established their first face-to-face communication with Turkish nationals detained by Israeli forces aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla, which was en route to Gaza carrying humanitarian supplies, a representative from the Turkish Foreign Ministry announced on Friday.

There is a possibility that the detained individuals might be repatriated to Türkiye as early as Saturday via a dedicated flight, stated Oncu Keceli while addressing the press.

Authorities are exploring multiple options to facilitate the quickest and most secure return of these nationals, he added.

"Our consulate officials have been there for approximately eight hours and have had direct contact with our citizens for the first time."

"According to initial information, there is no cause for concern regarding the general health of our citizens," Keceli added.

Highlighting the intensive efforts being made to wrap up the matter promptly, Keceli affirmed:
"Our colleagues are following the situation with local authorities, and our coordination with the relevant authorities and institutions in Türkiye continues."

Underscoring the symbolic significance of the Sumud Flotilla in raising international awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, he emphasized: "We have closely followed developments regarding the flotilla since the first day of its organization."

"We were in contact with the flotilla's organizing committee and participants from the very beginning."
