Trump Calls on Senate to Cancel August Recess
(MENAFN) US President Donald Trump appealed to Senate Majority Leader John Thune on Saturday, urging him to cancel the Senate’s usual August break.
He requested that lawmakers hasten the approval process for his executive and judicial appointees.
“Hopefully the very talented John Thune, fresh off our many victories over the past two weeks and, indeed, 6 months, will cancel August recess (and long weekends!), in order to get my incredible nominees confirmed. We need them badly!!” Trump posted on Truth Social.
The Senate is currently scheduled to confirm six of Trump’s nominees on Monday and to move forward with approving his candidate to head the Drug Enforcement Agency.
Among the nominations are Emil Bove, a Justice Department attorney proposed for a federal appeals court judgeship, and Jeanine Pirro, a former Fox News host nominated to serve as the US attorney for the District of Columbia.
Bove is facing pushback from Democrats following a whistleblower’s allegation that he advised the Justice Department to ignore court orders related to migrant deportations, a charge he has denied.
In addition, Trump’s latest picks for the National Labor Relations Board seek to reestablish a quorum on the panel, which has been inactive since January after Trump removed its Democratic member.
