Gandhi Maidan SHO Suspended Over Negligence In Gopal Khemka Murder Case
The suspension was ordered by Patna's IG Jitendra Rana based on the report of Patna SSP Kartikeya K. Sharma, who found multiple lapses in law and order maintenance under Kumar's watch.
Gopal Khemka, a prominent businessman in Bihar, was shot dead in Patna recently near his home.
The Patna Police arrested mastermind Ashok Saw and shooter Umesh Yadav in connection with the murder.
The arms supplier linked to the case was killed in a police encounter.
Police recently recreated the crime scene and are preparing to conduct narco tests on Ashok Saw and Umesh Yadav to uncover further details.
The murder is currently linked to a land dispute. Initially, Ashok Saw claimed innocence, but his mobile location data placed him at Gandhi Maidan during the murder.
Shooter Umesh Yadav confessed that the murder was carried out on Saw's contract.
The Patna SSP found lapses in prompt action and monitoring in the Gandhi Maidan area during the incident.
SHO Rajesh Kumar's repeated failures to maintain law and order and negligence in the high-profile murder case led to his suspension.
The Patna Police continue to interrogate both accused on remand, aiming to unearth all aspects of the conspiracy behind the murder.
Gopal Khemka murder case has created a political storm in Bihar with leaders like the RJD's Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, Vikassheel Insaan Party leader Mukesh Sahani and others putting question marks on the law and order situation in Bihar which has seen a spate of high profile murders in the last one month.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister, Vijay Kumar Sinha earlier said that while incidents of crime in the state are unfortunate, the government is taking action with full vigilance and seriousness to control the situation.
Sinha said,“Some people want to bring 'jungle raj' in Bihar by wearing the mask of morality. The government will deal strictly with crime and criminals. If needed, strict steps against callous police officers and bulldozer action, encounter, and property attachment will be taken against criminals.”
