Iraq Signs Preliminary Agreement With HKN Energy To Develop Himreen Oilfield


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BAGHDAD, July 15 (KUNA) -- North Oil Company (NOC) inked a preliminary agreement with the US company HKN Energy to develop the Himreen oilfield in northern Iraq, the country's oil ministry said on Tuesday.
In a statement by the Iraqi oil minister, Hayan Abdul Ghani, who also serves as the Deputy Prime Minister for Energy Affairs, stated that the country is aiming to boost oil production from Himreen to 60,000 barrels per day from current output levels of 20,000 to 25,000 bpd.
On his part, Director General of NOC Amer Khalil that the preliminary agreement would lay out the groundwork for future developments contracts, as it seeks to secure gas fuel for power generation as well as create new jobs for Iraqi workers.
US Charge D'affaires, Steven Fagin who attended the signing ceremony, expressed his satisfaction with this project, reaffirming the US interest in expanding future cooperation. (end)
