Trump threatens Musk if he finances Democrats

(MENAFN) US Leader Donald Trump issued a strong warning to billionaire Elon Musk on Saturday, cautioning him of “very serious consequences” if he provides financial support to Democratic candidates challenging Republican lawmakers who back the party’s major budget bill.

“He’ll have to pay very serious consequences if he does that,” Trump said during a phone interview, though he declined to specify what those consequences would be.

The president made it clear that he is not interested in repairing the rift between himself and Musk, responding with “no” when asked if he intended to reconcile.

“I would assume so, yeah,” Trump replied when questioned about whether he believed his relationship with Musk was definitively over.

Trump indicated that following his public split with Musk, he sees the Republican Party as more united than ever. He also emphasized that he does not plan to contact the Tesla CEO, stating: “I’m too busy doing other things.”

“I have no intention of speaking to him.”

Trump further criticized Musk for showing “disrespect” toward the presidency, adding: “I think it’s a very bad thing, because he’s very disrespectful. You could not disrespect the office of the president.”

Earlier, on Thursday, Musk posted a series of messages on X targeting Trump, including a since-deleted message that referenced Trump’s previous connections with the late financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Trump dismissed the allegation on Saturday, calling it “old news,” and saying the matter had been discussed for years.

“Even Epstein’s lawyer said I had nothing to do with it. It’s old news,” he stressed.

The public confrontation between Trump and Musk escalated on Thursday after the president criticized Musk for opposing a Republican-backed spending measure due to its potential impact on the national deficit. The disagreement quickly intensified, affecting discussions in Congress and causing Tesla’s stock price to drop.
