Kashmir Sets April Heat Records, Srinagar Sees 2Nd Hottest April Day


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Srinagar recorded the second hottest April day on Wednesday, with temperatures soaring to 30.9°C for the second consecutive day. Kokernag in south Kashmir set a new record, reaching an all-time high of 29.1°C, surpassing the previous record of 28.3°C from April 30, 2007. The hottest April temperature ever recorded in Srinagar was 31.3°C on April 20, 1946.

The ongoing heatwave has affected several parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), advised residents to stay hydrated, drink plenty of fluids, and avoid outdoor activities between 12 PM and 3 PM during peak heat hours.

The MeT has forecasted brief spells of showers, accompanied by thunder and gusty winds, from May 1 to May 5. A dry spell is expected from May 6 to 7, with light rain and thunder possible on May 9 and 10.

Notably, on Tuesday, Pahalgam recorded the highest-ever maximum temperature in April on Tuesday, as a heatwave swept the valley, with all weather stations registering above normal day temperatures.

Srinagar recorded the highest maximum temperature in April in the last about eight decades on Tuesday, officials said.

Pahalgam in south Kashmir's Anantnag district on Tuesday recorded the maximum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius - 7.6 degrees above the normal for this time of the season, and the highest ever.

The previous highest was 27.4 degrees Celsius recorded on April 28, 1979, officials said.

Srinagar also recorded the maximum temperature of 30.8 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the second-highest in April ever, they said.
