Istanbul Celebrates Beauty of Chinese Culture on UN Chinese Language Day
(MENAFN) The UN Chinese Language Day, celebrated annually on April 20 since 2010, was marked this year in Istanbul, Turkey, with an event that focused on the global impact and aesthetic appeal of Chinese culture.
The theme for this year's celebration, "A Timeless Chinese Gift," was presented on Friday by the Confucius Institute at Bogazici University.
Gurkan Kumbaroglu, the vice president of Bogazici University, emphasized in his opening remarks that the event would deepen Turkish students' appreciation of Chinese culture and strengthen educational and cultural ties between China and Turkey.
A highlight of the event was a speech titled "Ode to the Peony" by Xu Xufeng, an academic from the Shanghai Calligraphy and Painting Academy. Xu explored the history of the peony motif, tracing its journey from ancient China along the Maritime Silk Road to Persia and Turkey, and its influence on Ottoman and intercultural art.
The celebration also included cultural seminars, performances, and art exhibitions. One of the most memorable performances was by three master puppeteers from Quanzhou in Fujian Province, who showcased the elegance of traditional Chinese string puppetry.
Additionally, an art exhibition displayed contemporary works from Shanghai-based artists, featuring various styles such as ink wash painting, fine brushwork, and vibrant color paintings, offering visitors a glimpse into modern Chinese art.
