Govt Reserves 4 Surgeries For Public Hospitals Under PM-JAY
During a legislative session, in response to a question by MLA Tanvir Sadiq, Minister for Health and Medical Education, Sakina Itoo, said the government decided to reserve the following surgeries for public sector hospitals only: Cholecystectomy, Laparoscopic Haemorrhoidectomy, Appendectomy, Fissure-in-ano surgery.
She explained that the decision was made in line with Anti-Fraud Advisory No. 17 dated June 29, 2020, issued by the National Health Authority (NHA). This advisory highlighted instances of fraudulent and unnecessary surgeries being performed in private hospitals. By shifting these procedures to government institutions, the government intends to ensure ethical practices, quality treatment, and protect beneficiaries from exploitation.
