Fatal fire erupts at hotel in Turkey, leaving one dead, others injured
(MENAFN) A devastating fire erupted at a closed ski resort hotel in northwestern Turkey on Thursday, resulting in one fatality and three serious injuries, local officials reported.
The incident occurred at the Uludag ski resort in Bursa province, where Bursa Mayor Mustafa Bozbey confirmed the tragic details during a live television broadcast. Preliminary investigations revealed that four individuals were present in the hotel at the time of the fire.
One person was killed in the blaze, while three others—reportedly a ski instructor, his wife, and their son—were found unconscious and subsequently transported to local medical facilities. The victims were severely affected by dense smoke generated during the incident, according to the mayor.
Officials noted that the hotel had been previously closed and evacuated owing to an out-of-date accommodation certificate that was not renewed.
The fire has been contained, and authorities have initiated a probe, according to media reports.
This incident comes on the heels of a deadly hotel blaze in January at the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province, which claimed 78 lives and left more than 50 others injured. In response, officials have ramped up inspections of hotels across the country.
