Pilot error blamed in Sri Lanka Air Force training aircraft crash
(MENAFN) A Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) training aircraft crash, which occurred last Friday in Wariyapola, was caused by pilot error, according to an official investigation. Minister of Transport, Highways, Ports, and Civil Aviation Bimal Rathnayake revealed the findings to the press on Monday.
The minister disclosed that a special investigation committee, formed by Air Marshal Bandu Edirisinghe, the SLAF commander, conducted a thorough examination of the incident. The investigation concluded that the aircraft and its engines were functioning correctly before the crash. This effectively ruled out mechanical failure as a contributing factor, pinpointing pilot error as the primary cause.
Minister Rathnayake was glad that both pilots involved in the incident sustained only minor injuries. The crash, which took place during a routine training exercise, occurred in Wariyapola, a town situated in the North Western Province of Sri Lanka. The SLAF is expected to review its training protocols in light of the investigation's findings.
