Admin Imposes Ban On Yaum-E-Ali Procession In North Kashmir Town

(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Citing security concerns, the Baramulla administration has imposed restrictions in Mirgund, Mirchimar, and adjoining areas ahead of the Yaum-e-Ali procession in the area on 21st Ramazan, Saturday.

The curbs under Section 163 BNSS shall come in force from 8 PM on March 21 to 9 PM on March 22, a government order said. The order bans gatherings, processions, and the use of loudspeakers, while also prohibiting weapons, except for security personnel.

According to the order, the decision follows a report from the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Baramulla, who highlighted concerns over potential clashes between two factions of the Shia community in the area. The order cites a history of violent confrontations between the groups and a recent escalation on March 4, 2025, as 'key reasons' for imposing the restrictions.

The SSP's report also noted that a religious event marking the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Ali (AS) is scheduled to take place at Imambargah Mirgund on 21st of Ramazan on Saturday. The event traditionally includes a procession from Imambargah Mirgund to Imambara Mirchimar led by Moulvi Masroor Abbas Ansari of J&K Itihad
Muslimeen.“However, with the recent ban on the said organization by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the authorities deemed it necessary to prevent any related activities, including the proposed procession”, it said.

“To ensure public safety, restrictions will be in effect from 8:00 PM on March 21 to 9:00 PM on March 22, 2025. During this period, no assembly or gathering of four or more people will be permitted in the affected areas. Processions of any kind will not be allowed. Carrying of firearms or any article that may be used as a weapon is strictly prohibited, except for security personnel and authorized officials. The use of loudspeakers or amplifying devices for speeches or announcements is banned unless prior permission is obtained from the District Magistrate”, the order reads.

The restrictions have been enforced to maintain peace and prevent any risk to life and property, the order stated. Authorities have urged residents to comply with the directives to avoid any legal action. It bears mention that members of Shia Association led by Moulvi Imran Ansari have declared that they will not allow the traditional procession from Mirgund led by Ittehadul Muslimeen to culminate at Imambargah Mirchmar sparking tension in the area.
