Discussions on Russia-Ukraine ceasefire set to start

(MENAFN) Ceasefire negotiations between Russia and Ukraine are set to begin on Sunday in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, according to a U.S. delegate on Tuesday.

The U.S. mission will be headed by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, as announced by Steve Witkoff, U.S. President Donald Trump's representative to the Middle East, in the course of a meeting with a news agency. This follows a phone conversation held between trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Witkoff noted that a ceasefire concerning energy infrastructure and targets in the Black Sea is "now agreed by the Russians," and he expressed that he is "hopeful that the Ukrainians will agree to it."

He noted: "It's a relatively short distance to a full ceasefire from there."

The U.S. has been advocating for a 30-day ceasefire between the two nations, aiming to pave the way for a broader settlement of the ongoing war, which has lasted for over three years.
