Türkiye dispatches ambulance planes to transport victims of deadly nightclub fire
(MENAFN) Türkiye has dispatched ambulance planes to North Macedonia to transport victims of a deadly nightclub fire in Kocani, with the first aircraft arriving in Skopje on Sunday evening.
A medical evacuation plane from the Turkish Ministry of health landed at Skopje International Airport to transfer three critically injured patients to Istanbul for treatment. Türkiye’s Ambassador to Skopje, Fatih Ulusoy, confirmed that North Macedonian authorities had requested urgent medical assistance.
“The ambulance plane sent by the Ministry of Health is currently transporting three injured young people to Türkiye. They will be treated at Cam and Sakura Hospital in Istanbul,” Ulusoy stated.
A second ambulance plane, operated by the Turkish Ministry of Defense, is en route to Skopje and will transport six additional injured victims to Ankara Bilkent City Hospital for advanced medical care.
“The Ministry of Health acted swiftly to coordinate this effort. We are in close communication with North Macedonian officials,” Ulusoy added. “This is a terrible tragedy, and we deeply share the pain of the North Macedonian people.”
The ambassador also confirmed that a Turkish citizen was among the injured and that officials would visit them later in the evening. He reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to supporting the people of North Macedonia.
The devastating fire broke out late Saturday night at a nightclub in Kocani, about 100 kilometers (62 miles) from Skopje, killing 59 people and injuring at least 155 others, according to local reports.
Authorities have reported that 22 of the injured remain in critical condition. In response to the tragedy, the Government of North Macedonia has declared a seven-day period of national mourning starting Monday.
